Gas Weed Burners for Paths, Pavers & Outdoor Areas

Weeds pushing through paving joints & cracks don't always need another round of herbicide. HOT Devil Heat Wands use a targeted gas flame to treat unwanted weeds around suitable hard surfaces while their extended burner tubes allow the work to be approached from a standing position.

Industrial Shed's HOT Devil Heat Wand range gives you two distinct gas configurations:

► HOT Devil Heat Wand / Weed Killer | HDWK – butane-powered with a 650mm burner tube & burn temperature up to 1350°C
► HOT Devil Super Weed Killer / Heat Wand | HD8936B – propane-powered with an 850mm burner tube & burn temperature up to 1898°C

Both models feature auto ignition, adjustable gas flow & lightweight portable construction. They can also be used for suitable outdoor ignition jobs including lighting BBQs, fire pits & wood heaters.

Need fuel for the wand you're using? HOT Devil Gas Cylinders covers compatible gas options. For concentrated heating work rather than extended-reach weed treatment, HOT Devil Torches provides purpose-built gas torch options.

What Are HOT Devil Heat Wands?

HOT Devil Heat Wands are long-reach gas flame tools designed for targeted thermal weed control & suitable outdoor heating or ignition tasks.

Instead of spraying a chemical weed killer, the wand applies intense heat directly to unwanted plant growth. The aim is to damage the weed's plant tissue with heat rather than trying to reduce it to ash.

The extended burner tube is an important part of the design. It places distance between the operator & burner while allowing weeds at ground level to be reached without repeatedly bending or kneeling.

Industrial Shed's two HOT Devil options achieve this with different fuels & dimensions.

The choice therefore comes down to more than flame temperature. Fuel format, connection, reach & the type of outdoor work all matter.

Why Choose HOT Devil Heat Wands?

Spraying isn't the only way to deal with weeds appearing between pavers, along pathways or through cracks in a driveway.

A gas heat wand provides a direct approach without applying poison to the weed.

HOT Devil's two models offer:

► Chemical-free thermal weed treatment
► Extended reach for ground-level work
► 650mm & 850mm burner tube choices
► Auto ignition
► Adjustable gas flow
► Lightweight portable construction
► Butane & propane configurations
► Use in suitable wet or dry conditions
► Additional use for lighting BBQs, fire pits & wood heaters

The longer HD8936B also provides additional reach over the HDWK which can be useful when working along larger paved or concrete areas.

Common Applications

Weeds Between Pavers

Paving joints provide exactly the sort of narrow spaces where unwanted growth can keep returning.

A heat wand allows the flame to be directed towards individual weeds without applying liquid herbicide across the surrounding paved area.

Work methodically along the joints rather than holding the flame unnecessarily in one position.

Concrete Driveway Cracks

Small weeds emerging through suitable cracks & joins in concrete can be individually targeted with heat.

Before using flame, clear loose combustible material from the immediate area & check what surrounds the section being treated.

Pathways

Long paths can involve repeated ground-level weed treatment.

The 650mm HDWK & 850mm HD8936B burner tubes provide extended reach so individual weeds can be approached without working immediately beside the burner.

Rockeries

Rockeries can produce awkward gaps that are inconvenient to reach manually.

HOT Devil identifies rockeries amongst the intended weed-treatment applications for both heat wand models.

Consider the surrounding vegetation, mulch & other combustible material before deciding whether direct flame is appropriate.

Lighting BBQs & Fire Pits

A long burner tube has another advantage when the job changes from weed treatment to ignition.

HOT Devil Heat Wands can be used for suitable BBQ & fire-pit lighting, allowing the flame to reach prepared fuel from further away than a compact lighter.

Lighting Wood Heaters

The extended burner can also assist with suitable wood-heater ignition where additional reach makes the prepared fuel easier to access.

Use the wand according to its instructions & establish that the surrounding area is suitable before ignition.

Product Selection Guide

Butane Or Propane?

This is the clearest difference between the two HOT Devil models.

The HDWK uses a compatible 220g bayonet butane cartridge while the HD8936B uses a CGA600/BOM-compatible propane cylinder.

If you already operate compatible gas equipment, the fuel system used elsewhere in your kit may influence which wand is more convenient.

Compare The Reach

The HDWK provides a 650mm burner tube.

The HD8936B extends that to 850mm.

That additional 200mm can be worth considering where larger areas are being treated or greater distance from the ground-level target is useful.

Consider The Heat Output

The two models also differ considerably in stated burn temperature:

► HDWK – up to 1350°C
► HD8936B – up to 1898°C

Don't treat temperature as the only selection point. Fuel compatibility, reach & the intended work should be considered together.

Match The Gas Correctly

These two wands don't accept the same gas format.

The HDWK uses a bayonet butane cartridge such as the compatible HOT Devil HD200C.

The HD8936B requires a compatible CGA600/BOM propane cylinder.

See HOT Devil Gas Cylinders when matching the wand with its required fuel supply.

Look Around The Weed

The weed may be the target but the flame doesn't know the difference between unwanted growth & nearby combustible material.

Before treatment, inspect for:

► Dry grass
► Mulch
► Leaves & garden debris
► Timber edging
► Fencing
► Plastic irrigation components
► Garden furniture
► Vehicles
► Fuel or other flammable products
► Nearby plants you want to retain

Where direct flame isn't appropriate, use another weed-control method.

Think About The Area Being Covered

A few weeds between backyard pavers present a different workload from repeated treatment across longer paths or driveways.

The HDWK provides a compact butane-powered option while the HD8936B combines propane operation with a longer 850mm burner tube.

Choose around the area & frequency of work rather than automatically selecting the model with the higher temperature.

Expert Tips

Don't Try To Incinerate The Weed

Thermal weed treatment works by damaging plant tissue with heat.

You don't need to stand over one weed until it's completely burnt away. Apply the heat according to the product instructions then move on.

Deal With Small Growth Early

Young weeds generally present less plant material to treat than established growth.

Regular attention to paving joints, paths & driveway cracks can make thermal treatment easier to incorporate into outdoor maintenance.

Clear Dry Material Before Ignition

Take a quick look around each working area before starting.

Dry leaves, loose grass & other combustible debris can turn a targeted weed-treatment job into an unwanted fire risk.

Give Yourself A Clear Route

When working along a path or driveway, keep the gas cylinder, hose-free wand configuration & your movement clear of obstacles.

A planned direction of travel makes it easier to see what has already been treated.

Check The Gas Before Starting A Larger Area

An extended driveway isn't the ideal place to discover the cartridge or cylinder is nearly empty.

Check your fuel supply before beginning longer runs of weed treatment.

Be Selective About Where Flame Is Used?

Heat wands make sense on suitable open hard-surface areas but direct flame isn't appropriate everywhere.

Avoid using them where surrounding vegetation, structures, stored materials, fire restrictions or local conditions make flame use unsafe or prohibited.

More From The Black Print

The cartridge or cylinder powering a Heat Wand deserves the same attention as the flame at the other end.

Take The Weeds Out Of The Cracks Without Reaching For The Spray

Pavers, paths, rockeries & concrete can all develop unwanted growth in places where pulling weeds becomes repetitive. A HOT Devil Heat Wand gives you a targeted flame approach with the reach to work from a more practical standing position.

Go with the HDWK for a 650mm butane setup or step up to the 850mm propane-powered HD8936B when the longer reach & higher heat output better suit the area.

Clear the surrounding area, connect the specified gas & put unwanted growth under the heat.
