What’s the difference between rosin-core & acid-core solder?

Rosin-core solder is designed for electrical work & leaves minimal, non-corrosive residue. Acid-core solder is more aggressive & is used for plumbing or metal repairs—never for electronics.

Do I need extra flux when using rosin-core solder?

Usually no, as rosin-core solder contains built-in flux. However, on oxidised or challenging joints, extra flux can still improve wetting & adhesion.

Can plumbing solder be used on electronics?

No. Plumbing solder often contains acid-based flux that can damage electronic components. Use electrical-grade rosin-core or lead-free solder instead.
