Match the Mask, Filters & Fit to the Exposure

Paint fumes, airborne dust & chemical vapours are not interchangeable hazards. A full-face respirator may provide respiratory protection together with eye coverage, but its effectiveness depends on the complete system, the contaminants present & a properly fitted face seal.

Industrial Shed's Full-Face Respirators range includes reusable facepieces, selected filter kits & specialist respiratory equipment. Before ordering, identify the exposure, confirm the required protection level & check the manufacturer's approved configurations.

Understand P2, P3 & Gas Filter Classifications

Filter markings describe different protection functions.

  • P2 particulate filters: Designed for specified airborne particles within their approved use limitations.

  • P3 particulate filters: Offer a higher particulate filtration classification, but actual protection depends on the complete respirator system.

  • A-type gas filters: Intended for specified organic gases & vapours.

  • B-type gas filters: Cover certain inorganic gases & vapours.

  • E-type gas filters: Intended for specified acid gases.

  • K-type gas filters: Cover ammonia & certain related compounds.

Combined markings, such as A1P2 or ABEK, identify particular filter capabilities. They do not establish suitability for every substance.

Check the safety data sheet, exposure assessment & manufacturer filter-selection information before choosing cartridges.

Full-Face Mask, Complete Kit or Replacement Part?

A reusable facepiece may be supplied without filters. A complete kit may include cartridges suited to a particular application, while replacement components are intended for compatible equipment.

Industrial Shed also lists specialist powered air-purifying respiratory equipment, including the Maxisafe CF02 Full-Face PAPR System. Powered systems require separate checks of approved components, operating conditions & manufacturer instructions.

Confirm exactly what is included before ordering.

Choose the Correct Size & Check the Seal

A tight-fitting full-face respirator must fit the wearer's facial dimensions. Adjustable straps cannot compensate for every sizing problem.

Appropriate fit testing is required as part of a respiratory protection program, with a user seal check each time the mask is fitted.

Facial hair in the sealing area, damaged valves & ordinary spectacle arms can compromise the seal. Manufacturer-approved spectacle inserts may be required.

Full-Face vs Half-Face Respirators

A full-face respirator adds eye coverage & may provide a different assigned protection level, depending on the equipment & respiratory protection program.

A half-face respirator may suit some tasks where separate compatible eye protection is used.

Compare options in Half-Face Respirators.

Important Limitations

Air-purifying respirators do not supply oxygen. They must not be used in oxygen-deficient or immediately dangerous environments, or where the approved filter system cannot control the exposure.

Spraying certain hazardous coatings, including isocyanate-containing products, may require a different respiratory protection system.

Safety & Care

  • Identify contaminants before selection.

  • Check filter classifications & compatibility.

  • Complete required fit testing.

  • Perform a seal check before use.

  • Inspect valves, lenses & straps.

  • Follow filter replacement schedules.

  • Clean & store equipment correctly.

Full-Face Respirators FAQs

Does a P3 Filter Protect Against Solvent Vapours?

Not by particulate filtration alone. Suitable gas or vapour protection must be selected separately where required.

Can I Mix Different Brands of Filters & Masks?

Only use combinations specifically approved by the manufacturer.

Do Full-Face Respirators Come in Different Sizes?

Many do. Select the correct facepiece size & confirm the fit through the required testing process.

When Is a Powered Respirator Worth Considering?

A powered system may suit certain assessed exposures or working conditions, but its selection depends on the complete approved configuration.
