Ball Bearings & Accessories: Selection, Installation and Service
This collection is the practical starting point for a complete ball-bearing job. It brings together the core bearing range with the housings, locking components, installation aids and lubrication products that may be needed to return a machine to service. Use it when the task is broader than selecting a single bearing: a trailer hub repair, pump overhaul, electric motor replacement, conveyor maintenance job, workshop machine rebuild or agricultural equipment service.
For the parent range and alternative bearing families, visit the Bearings & Power Transmissions hub. If the requirement is a standard radial bearing by dimensions or designation, shop the dedicated Ball Bearings collection. This page is deliberately the bridge between product selection and an installation that is correctly supported, protected and maintained.
Build the bearing solution around the actual duty
Every bearing installation has a working environment. Dust, moisture, vibration, temperature, shaft speed, radial load, axial load, housing condition and lubrication practice all affect the right choice. The bearing number is valuable, but it does not replace the need to confirm dimensions, seal configuration, clearance, fit and the way the machine transfers load. A component that looks identical can still differ in grease, cage, shielding or internal clearance.
-
Deep groove ball bearings are widely used for radial duties in motors, pumps, fans, rollers and general machinery. Browse deep groove ball bearings when this is the intended design.
-
Angular contact and thrust arrangements should be chosen where axial loading, pairing or preload is specified. See angular contact ball bearings and thrust ball bearings.
-
Mounted units, housings and inserts are selected as an assembly where mounting, grease access and shaft retention must be considered together.
-
Service items such as selected fitting tools, locking hardware and lubricants should support the bearing design—not be treated as a substitute for confirming the bearing itself.
Fitment checks before you order
Start with the complete marking on the old bearing. Then confirm bore, outside diameter, width, series, seal or shield suffix, internal clearance and any groove, flange or locking feature. Measure the shaft and housing if there is evidence of wear, spinning or fretting. Metric and imperial sizes are not interchangeable simply because they appear close. On a mounted application, identify the housing type and shaft-locking method as well as the insert bearing size.
For an incomplete or unreadable code, provide the dimensions, photos, machine model, application, load direction, operating speed and environment. This lets the available product data be checked against the job. It is especially important for conveyor, high-speed motor, pump, agricultural and trailer work, where a wrong seal, clearance or housing arrangement can shorten service life.
Seals, shields, housings and lubrication
Open bearings are usually used only where the machine’s lubrication system is designed to supply oil or grease. Shielded designs can suit cleaner, higher-speed applications, while contact seals generally provide stronger protection from contamination. The correct choice depends on the duty; a sealed product is not automatically better if its speed, temperature or lubrication arrangement is unsuitable.
When a bearing is fitted to a housing, inspect the base, shaft condition, retention method and grease path. A new bearing cannot compensate for a damaged shaft, misaligned frame or contaminated lubricant. Apply installation force only through the ring being fitted, never through the rolling elements. Use clean tools and a suitable pressing or heating method where the manufacturer permits it. Avoid mixing greases without confirming compatibility, and do not overfill a housing.
Brands represented in the live range
Current range coverage includes SKF, Timken, NTN, EZO, IJK, KSM, ENC, NBR and Finer Power Transmissions, with other trade-focused accessory brands appearing where their products genuinely support the job. These brands are not all interchangeable ranges: availability varies by series, dimensions, seal arrangement and product status. Search the exact designation where possible and use supplier specifications to confirm the choice.
Examples visible in the active catalogue include NTN and IJK metric sizes, EZO stainless compact bearings, Timken mounted and wide-inner-ring lines, and ENC stainless sealed deep groove products. SKF range depth is substantial but much of it remains in Draft status; it should be made live only after product data, imagery, availability and price have been reviewed. This is a safer route to expanding the customer range than adding unverified items.

Frequently asked questions
Should I replace seals and housings when I replace a bearing?
Inspect them rather than assuming either way. A damaged seal, worn housing bore, compromised locking collar or contaminated grease can cause a new bearing to fail early. Replace supporting items when their condition or the manufacturer’s service recommendation calls for it.
Can I use an automotive or trailer bearing in industrial machinery?
Only if the complete dimensions, load rating, fit, lubrication and operating conditions match the application. A similar-looking component is not proof of suitability. Confirm the equipment specification before cross-applying a bearing.
Do you supply bearings for trade, project and maintenance orders?
Yes. Industrial Shed can assist with product matching, trade quotations and larger project requirements across Australia. Send the full bearing identification and application details so the selection can be checked against manufacturer information.
Support for critical repairs
For critical machinery, do not select solely on price or visual similarity. Industrial Shed supports Australia-wide workshop, industrial, agricultural and project-site customers from Somerville, Victoria. Contact our team with the full designation and duty details when the application involves high speed, significant load, safety-critical equipment or costly downtime.
