Manufactured from durable high speed steel, the 1/8" diameter tap features a 27 threads-per-inch (TPI) NPT thread form, based on the ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 standard for tapered pipe threads. NPT threads form a seal as they are torqued, with the taper angle allowing the thread flanks to compress against each other — although a thread sealant or tape is typically required for leak-free performance. Bottoming taps have a short lead (two threaded lead) to ensure minimal thread run-out and allow you to cut threads as deep as possible in a blind hole.
