Manufactured from premium high-speed steel (HSS), this BSF tap set utilises the classic British Standard Fine thread form — a fine-pitch variant of the traditional Whitworth series first introduced in 1908 and specified under BS84:1956. The BSF thread form has a finer thread (more threads per inch) compared to coarser Standards, offering greater tensile stress area and improved resistance to stripping. The set includes taps with different lead types (taper, intermediate, and bottoming) to cover thread starting, general threading and full-depth threading to the bottom of blind holes. With a 1/4" nominal diameter and 26 threads per inch (TPI), this versatile set is suitable for both hand and general machine tapping in machinable metals and other materials.
