Built for workshop, fabrication and general industrial use, this intermediate tap produces accurate Whitworth threads with reliable engagement — ideal for threads cut true to a pre-drilled pilot hole.

Manufactured from durable high-speed steel (HSS), this tap features the classic BSW thread form with a 55° thread angle and rounded roots and crests — a traditional Whitworth standard originally developed by Sir Joseph Whitworth in 1841 and specified under BS84:1956. Intermediate taps have a lead of four threads, making them suitable for most general purpose applications where controlled cutting and strong thread form are important. The 5/32" diameter with 32 threads per inch (TPI) makes this tap appropriate for use in metals and other machinable materials, and suitable for both hand and general machine tapping operations.
