Mounted Equipment & Machinery Repairs
An insert bearing must match both the shaft & the housing—not simply the nominal bore diameter. Industrial Shed's range includes insert bearings, wide inner ring bearings & related cartridge arrangements for conveyors, agricultural equipment, fans, packaging machinery & general industrial maintenance.
The live range includes UC, UK, UCX, UR & related series, with product coverage from NBR, Timken, UBC & other listed manufacturers. Some listings are for individual bearing inserts, while others may include a housing or complete assembly. Always check the supplied configuration before ordering.
Choose the right insert bearing
-
UC series: commonly use a wide inner ring with a set-screw locking arrangement. Match the complete bearing designation & housing series.
-
UK series: use a different shaft-mounting arrangement, commonly involving an adapter sleeve. Confirm the specified sleeve & shaft compatibility.
-
UCX & related series: may differ in bearing dimensions or construction from standard UC designs. Check the manufacturer's technical drawing.
-
Wide inner ring bearings: provide a particular inner-ring geometry for compatible shaft-mounted applications. They are not interchangeable with standard bearings based on bore size alone.
Match the shaft, housing & locking method
Start with the complete bearing code, then compare shaft bore, outside diameter, width, outer ring profile, housing series & locking arrangement. Both metric & imperial shaft sizes occur in the range, so avoid rounding measurements or substituting a near-equivalent bore.
Check the shaft for scoring, fretting or wear at the locking position. An otherwise suitable new insert may loosen or wear prematurely if the shaft is undersized or damaged.
Set-screw, collar & sleeve arrangements
Set-screw or grub-screw inserts secure the inner ring to a compatible shaft. Other bearing series use eccentric locking collars, adapter sleeves or different manufacturer-defined arrangements.
The locking method affects installation, available clearance & shaft attachment. Confirm the original equipment specification, installation procedure & tightening requirements before changing from one system to another.
Seals, grease & operating environment
Bearing inserts may use different seal arrangements, lubricants & materials depending on their intended application. Selected listings include stainless steel, triple-lip seal or special-grease variants where specified.
For agricultural machinery, outdoor equipment or washdown environments, check moisture exposure, abrasive dust, temperature & chemical compatibility. Food-grade grease or corrosion-resistant materials do not automatically make an assembly suitable for every food-processing or washdown application.
Check the supplied bearing configuration
-
Is the listing for an insert only, housing only or complete mounted unit?
-
Does the bore match the shaft in the correct metric or imperial size?
-
Does the bearing's outer ring fit the existing housing?
-
Does the locking method match the original assembly?
-
Are the seals, lubricant & materials suitable for the environment?
Do not fit a new insert into a damaged or loose housing. Inspect shaft condition, housing fit, alignment & mounting hardware before returning equipment to service.
Related mounted-bearing components
For complete ready-to-mount assemblies, explore Mounted Bearing Units. For separate bearing housings, compare Plummer Block Housings.
If the machinery instead requires a conventional radial ball bearing fitted directly into a machine housing, browse Deep Groove Ball Bearings.
Cartridge & insert bearing brands
Compare insert & wide inner ring bearing products from NBR, Timken, UBC & other listed manufacturers. Brand availability varies by shaft size, series, locking method & seal arrangement. Confirm the individual SKU's dimensions, supplied components & manufacturer specifications.
Cartridge & Insert Bearings FAQs
Can I replace an insert using only the shaft diameter?
No. Confirm the bearing series, outside diameter, width, locking method, outer ring profile & housing compatibility.
What is the difference between an insert & a mounted bearing unit?
An insert is the bearing component. A mounted unit typically combines the bearing with a compatible housing.
Are stainless steel or triple-lip options suitable for wet environments?
Only where the complete bearing assembly is rated for the site's moisture, chemical, temperature & cleaning conditions.
What information helps identify a replacement insert?
Provide the bearing & housing codes, shaft size, locking arrangement, dimensions & equipment application.
